Apex Cultures® FlocuClear is a targeted wort fining agent formulated with 30% amorphous silicon dioxide, engineered for maximum adsorption of coarse trub during wort clarification. Its optimized surface charge delivers highly selective adsorption, efficiently reducing trub (mg/L) without stripping desirable fermentation compounds. This aluminum-free silica sol (SiO₂ not treated with Al₂O₃) improves wort clarity while promoting compact, well-defined sedimentation—without negatively impacting flavor or foam stability. Effective at low dosing rates of 15-30 g/hL, FlocuClear can be added at the end of the boil or integrated into automated dosing systems for seamless brewhouse application.
In the brewhouse, FlocuClear delivers measurable process advantages. Enhanced sediment compaction reduces trub volume and wort losses, improving yield and downstream filterability. Faster, more efficient sedimentation can shorten whirlpool stand times, helping minimize DMS formation, reduce color pickup, and support long-term flavor stability. The result is improved wort quality, greater operational efficiency, and more consistent beer performance—allowing breweries to increase throughput while protecting sensory integrity batch after batch.

Colloidal silica solution (30% amorphous silicon dioxide).
Optimized surface charge delivers efficient reduction of coarse trub (mg/L) without adsorbing desirable fermentation compounds.
Improves wort clarity and promotes compact, well-defined sedimentation with no negative effect on flavor or foam stability.
Enhanced sediment compaction results in reduced trub volume, lower wort losses, and improved downstream filterability.
Aluminum-free silica sol (SiO₂ not treated with Al₂O₃), distinguishing it from conventional silica products.
15-30 g/hL.
Higher rates may be necessary in wort with large quantities of unmalted components (maize, rice, syrups). Bench testing at different dosages is recommended in order to achieve optimal results.
FlocuClear may be added directly to the wort kettle at the end of the boil, separately from hop additions (approximately 5 minutes after hopping). It can also be dosed through automated hop dosing systems or injected via an automated continuous-flow system between the kettle and whirlpool.
